Here's a strange one. Whenever I get an email alert from Twitter to any of my email accounts, TB is changing the "From" name to "James Smith (via Twitter)". This includes anything sent from the "notify@twitter.com" email address. I checked all of my Message Filters, and there's no rule set up to rename incoming emails from Twitter, so I am mystified.

FYI, I doubt this has anything to do with Twitter. This is a Thunderbird issue.

Chosen solution

What is in the source code headers? Select email click on 'More' and select 'View source'

Is there any mention of "James Smith (via Twitter)"?

Check address books, including 'Collected Addresses: Is there any mention of "James Smith" associated with a @twitter.com email address? It might be in a 'Display' name section.

That was it!

In my contact list, the sender's name for the generic email address "notify@twitter.com" was somehow edited to read "James Smith." I suspect I was trying to edit an email address in my contact list, and it was either directly above or below the Twitter one, and edited that one by accident.

So repairing the contact entry for notify@twitter.com fixed the problem.

Thanks, I would not have thought to look there!
