When I try to open a document from a website it always downloads. How can I open it first and decide to save on my own. Chrome allows me to open and see it

This started happening recently. I used to be able to open a document for review and decide if I wanted to save it or not. Now the document always downloads with a strange file number, I must got to the downloads, open and review. If I want to save it I then have to change the document name to something that is understandable. Any help is appreciated. Merry Christmas!

What kind of documents are they? Firefox keeps a list of web content types and how you want to handle them so if the problem is with PDFs, for example, you usually can change how Firefox handles them using the Applications section of the Options page. This article discusses how to go about that in more detail: View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer.

Please note: sometimes it takes many seconds to switch from the General section of the Options page to the Applications section while Firefox loads the settings file and builds the list.

Similar steps apply for Word documents and other content types.

If Firefox no longer uses your settings for a particular content type, the settings file might have become corrupted. We can suggest a workaround for that if you have that problem.
