Once I downloaded Firefox it asked me to log on using my email account. Since I did not have a firefox email account I got confused as to what acct it was asking about. But in getting to this page I used my gmail account and it accepted that. Will I be logging-on using my gmail acct from now on?

You can create a Firefox account, that is separate from a support website account.

A Firefox account enables you to use the Sync service to keep some of your browser settings data in the cloud and share it with other installations of Firefox that you might have (for example, on a different computer or mobile device). You can find more information about the growing range of services in this article: Access Mozilla Services with a Firefox Account.

Of course, it's optional: you can browse right away without creating a Firefox account if you like. (I actually haven't gotten around to setting one up myself yet.)
