I granted permission for an update on Thunderbird yesterday and have not been able to access emails since. What happened?

When I turned on the computer and accessed Thunderbird a pop up asked permission to make a change to Thunderbird. I agreed and never gave it another thought. When I turned the computer on today, I have been unable to access my in box. I click 'get messages' it logs on to internet, appears to download as the green light fills up but then nothing. I have contacted internet provider. All is fine there. Am able to download on my android. The problem is limited to my PC.

Are you another Norton user?

Yes I am. Both software have been on the computer for years. What's next?

Norton is basically having a total meltdown with this release. Why I have no idea.

You could fiddle with Norton settings, but first try reinstalling Thunderbird from getthunderbird.com

That appears in most cases to prompt Norton into acknowledging there is a new version so things can start working.again
