I went to the profiles folder and removed the profile established when i installed thunderbird on a new computer. i deleted the existing profile and replaced it with the restored one. Thunderbird won't start

Please confirm: Did you only delete the new 'xxxxxxxx.default' folder, where the x's are letters and numbers ? Did you then paste in your backed up 'xxxxxxxx.default' folder ? Did you then alter the 'profiles.ini' file to point to the different 'xxxxxxxx.default' folder name ?
