My client had a new computer last week. Installed thunderbird which was working fine until today. He can't send emails with attachments. It's a gmail account, which works fine in the browser and on other machines with thunderbird.On his machine it just times out

first try without windows defender, just to eliminate it.

Check the gmail setting on gmail.

Is the allow less secure apps turned on or off. Is the person using Google two factor authentication? Have they created an application password for Thunderbird if that is the case?

Almost all issues with Google are about two factor authentication and less secure application.

The next most common issue is firewall and anti virus.
