How can I save emails to my hard drive? Does Archive save to my hard drive or to a Mozilla server?

more options

All my email disappeared from my Yahoo email inbox. So I created a Thunderbird email account which automatically mirrors my Yahoo email. I thought this would be a backup, in case all my yahoo email disappears again. But I am no so sure this is really a backup since the emails on Thunderbird might also disappear someday (for reasons which are entirely beyond me).

So in view of the foregoing, I wanted to store all my emails to my hard drive as a backup, without having to cut and paste the content of each message. Is there any way of doing that for emails on Thunderbird (or Yahoomail)?

I don't think the Archive feature is satisfactory since that just stores mail on another Thunderbird or Yahoo server, and again, that could be lost, and there will be no way to retrieve it.

Thanks!

You don't actually have a "Thunderbird" account. So the first step is to identify who provides this second account. If it uses pop then it is storing all your messages on your own computer. Whether this is good or bad depends on your attitude to backups. If you're backing up yourself then all well and good. If it's someone else's server then your fate is in their hands.

What Mozilla server would that be? Thunderbird is email client software running on your computer. Email providers have servers.

Archives save where you set them up to go.

Right click the account in the folder pane on the left and select Settings. Then Copies and Folders.

FYI: You might want to learn how IMAP email vs POP email works so you do not have any surprises considering you statement about Thunderbird mirroring Yahoo.
