System is very slow and freezes up frequently when I try to retreive new mail or open an existing email
When I try to log into my email account, it is very slow. Then when I try to retrieve new mail or open an existing email the system freezes up and says it is not responding. Then when I try to close the system, it takes several tries to finally do so.

What is your anti-virus software?
My anti-virus sw is Norton
Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Does the problem go away?
