Why do I keep getting the message "Thunderbird has stopped working"?
I keep getting the message "Thunderbird has stopped working when trying to empty my junk or trash folders, it also happens at times when message is being sent to the "sent" folder. This has only happened recently, maybe after an "update"?
I am using Win 10 and Gmail with Thunderbird 38.6.0
The program is useless if I have to spend all this time closing and reopening thunderbird. Coley

using an anti virus? have we already documented it's failures here?
Are there memory issues perhaps? See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems
Thanks for your reply Matt.
I have been using VIPRE AV for some months now without problems, this has only just started maybe two weeks ago. It doesn't happen every time so being intermittent, it is hard to find the cause. It is just so annoying when it does as I have to either wait, for what seems ages, for it to clear itself or close the program and restart it has usually cleared on restart.
