Hi, would be grsteful if someone could help please.

I am now on my 4th Mac, using firefox and have never had a problem before. Had a new Mac for 3 weeks and every day there is a Firefox pop warning stating that a security update is available. I click on "About Firefox" and see that I am running 46.0.1 and that it states updates are available and to click on the link. Once I have clicked on the link, it launches but no updates can be completed.

Below is what is supposed to happen but nothing happens. "so is there no update available on 46.0.1 and if so why does Firefox send the pop-up warning every day ? The About Firefox window will open and Firefox will begin checking for updates and downloading them automatically. When the updates are ready to be installed, click Restart Firefox to Update. "

Thank you Fredmcd.

Yes, had to delete the old one and start anew.

Strange that the update does not work, when it has countless times on other versions.

Thank you.

The current Firefox is v47. However, . Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

Thank you for getting back me Fredmcd.

As you can see from the attcahments below, I am doing everything right and not clicking on anything other than what comes from "about firefox". Then nothing download automatically as stated by firefox. So i then proceed to clikc on the firefox link which gives the first attachment below (green free download button) and although it does seem to download, i go back into firefox and it is still showing 46.0.1 instead of 47.

How do i get 47 to replace the old one please ?

When you download the dmg from mozilla.org you gave to actually install it as you only saved it to disk.

FredMcD this is a Mac user and not on Windows. He was having issues with doing the 46.0.1 to 47.0 update in Firefox.

This fake Firefox update .exe you were thinking of only seems to target Windows users and the fake patch .exe is not a issue for Mac and Linux users anyways since they do not use .exe.

Also, some protection programs don't like the update stubs.

This is only a issue on Windows. You do notice this is a Mac OSX user right?

Also the small stub setups served to Windows users on mozilla.org are not update stubs but a installer that connects online do install unlike the full setup on Windows that can install Firefox offline.
