As of yesterday, Yahoo Mail is telling my that my mail application is untrusted. What is going on?

I have had a Yahoo account for several years. My Thunderbird settings are for a POP server and SSL/TLS security. As of yesterday Yahoo mail told me that my connection is unsecure, and suggested that I turn off allowing access by unsecured apps. If being configured as a POP server is a problem, how can I convert it to a IMAP server without losing all my emails and settings?

just ignore the yahoo message... they want to frighten you to using web mail with adds. There is money there. There is none in providing pop mail.
