How can I start with a total clean slate? Cannot resolve past a certain error message

I originally got a message at the bottom of my hotmail emails that says "Firefox seems...slow...to...start..." and so after ignoring it for awhile, I decided to click it because it promised to refresh it. BIG mistake. After doing so, the next thing I remembered was that I could no longer start the application. I work off of a Mac OS 10.11.6, and Firefox has long been my favorite browser. Installing new apps didn't seem to work either, so to troubleshoot this problem I uninstalled the app, restarted my computer and emptied the trash. Then, went through the installation process again. I still get that error message, and Firefox just refuses to start.

Firefox, or other browsers, may tell you there is a problem. But not in an e-mail.

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.
