When I search it gives me only ad sites but says a problem has kept it from searching the normal web sites

When I search, either in the address bar or in the search bar, more and more often I am getting a "We had temporary problems searching for web pages. Search again" But when I search again, I get the same message. After closing out of Firefox and reopening it, it usually works again for the first few searches, but then returns to the "We had temporary problems ..." message.

It can't be the connection, but the past few times I've switched to Safari, and it works fine. I don't really have any idea what to do about it.

Hi Rick, when you get that message, what is the address in the address bar? For example, something like this when you search for firefox from the search bar:

https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=firefox&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001

https://www.google.com/search?q=firefox&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=firefox&t=ffsb

https://www.bing.com/search?q=firefox&pc=MOZI&form=MOZSBR

Those are standard Firefox search URL patterns, so any other parameters on the address could indicate something suspicious.
