I was planning to change computer motherboards and realized that I might have to re-install Windows 7. Before starting, I had Firefox save my bookmarks - saved as 'bookmarks-2016-09-01' Firefox did not add a file extension. After the hardware change, I did, in fact, have to re-install Windows 7. My new install of Firefox will not recognize 'bookmarks-2016-09-01'. I searched in Windows.old and found my old user profile, but there was no App.data.

How can I use the file 'bookmarks-2016-09-01'? I was able to open 'bookmarks-2016-09-01' with Firefox - the information seems to all be there - really massive amount of data. But how to use it? Thanks for any help on this.

Chosen solution

Solved: I renamed 'bookmarks-2016-09-01' [no file extension] to 'bookmarks-2016-09-01.json'. Firefox was then able to restore the bookmarks.
