My MacBook running OS 10.7.5 doesn't seem to work with the newest version of Firefox. I upgraded Firefox only because a box came on the screen saying that I should, or had to. Now I'm stuck. Where can I find an earlier version of Firefox to work with my MacBook?

You can find all versions of Firefox from the FTP server.

Warning: Using old versions of Firefox poses a significant security risk
Important: By default, Firefox is set to automatically update itself. If you install an older version of Firefox, you'll need to change your update settings to prevent the latest Firefox version from being reinstalled. See Advanced panel - Accessibility, browsing, network, updates, and other advanced settings in Firefox for details.

To actually answer question.

The current Firefox 48.0.2 from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ does work on Mac OSX 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 however Firefox 49.0 scheduled next week Sept 20 will require OSX 10.9 at minimum to run.

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx on your options.

They often just copy and paste from previous version System Requirements page as changes in OS requirements never really changed for long periods at times.

There was talk of making Firefox 48.0 require OSX 10.9 and a certain Mozilla blog post sometime back made some think the change was happening in 48.0 and not in 49.0 at time. So whomever made the Firefox 48.0 System Requirements page may have went with wrong information or misunderstood at time.

The only real OS requirements changes in last year were: Firefox 42.0 was the first Release on Windows to have Win64 and required 64-bit Windows 7 or later (though Win64 did not get attention till 43.0 Release). Firefox 46.0 and later on Linux requires GTK 3.4 (or preferably newer to run) and now Mac OSX will have the OSX 10.9 minimum for Firefox 49.0 and later.

The Firefox 49.0 Beta builds System Requirements is correct as this will be the page for Firefox 49.0 Release. https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/49.0beta/system-requirements/
