Next to the "Inbox" the is a number in parentheses which often changes. What does this number indicate? Can I clear it or make it not show? Anyway, what does it mean?

Thank you. It solves my "worries." However, I have always read all my messages and currently there are no messages left in black in my Inbox. The figure says (9), but I can't find 9 unread messages. What am I doing wrong. Also, I don't necessarily answer all messages. Does this have anything to do with it? Thank you again. Richard Goris

Answering has nothing to do with it, would be impossible with all spam.

  • Make a second folder and move most or all your messages there.
  • Compact your Inbox

If it doesn't go away right click on folder choose properties and repair

Advice: Keep Inbox small and Compact regularly

Why? All incoming messages with attachments are added to the end of the single file that is the Inbox-folder. When you delete or move a message it isn't removed from the folder, it is just marked as to be deleted It is not until you compact that the file is rewritten without the to be deleted messages.

I have a keep and a to_do folder. whenever I read a message I move it to either folder (or delete) That way I have only unread messages in Inbox.

I also use extra columns total and size that way I can see if my inbox is getting big and need compacting (click on the symbol at my arrow to select)
