I click on a webpage and a new window appears with advertising material. I have reinstalled Firefox and checked ad ons but it didn't help. What do I do?.

When I go to a web page at first I can't click on the link I want - it is dead - but when I click a new web page appears with advertising material - once this appears I can click on my link. I have reinstalled Firefox, checked the ad ons and looked in programs to see if there is a rogue program causing this with no luck. This does not happen on Internet Explorer only Firefox. My virus program hasn't found anything. It has been happening for about a month - help!

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
