Chosen solution

To ensure that your data is transferred, you can make a backup of the data stored locally on your Vista system. This article has suggestions: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

If you created a Firefox Account and set up Sync on your current Firefox, then certain data would have been sent to and stored on Mozilla's Sync servers. After installing Firefox on your new system, it will provide a box to sign in to your Firefox Account and set up Sync on the new device. This is not related to your IP address.

Make sure you still have access to the email account you used for the account because most likely you'll need to click a confirmation link.
