I need to be able to recall messages to see what was said and what was quoted for my business...as it is I can't seem to find some messages that I know should be there...for example...

I'd like to be able to search "Bob Jones" and every bit of correspondence between Bob and my self comes up

right now when I search I might get the latest email thread....or one from a month ago.....but never the entire list

Are you on IMAP settings or POP settings on the server settings?

The difference being.. IMAP - duplicates your webmail mailbox. and its the same for all devices (Like if you have the same account on your mobile phone or Ipad, its the same. helps keeps track of all the sent mails on all devices) POP - downloads the messages to your computer.

IMAP is a good way to go. But I personally find POP works better since I have not taken a special email package, which means I have limited online email space. And being a designer, my mails are heavy. I download all inbox messages to my computer. (that way I am able to access them even offline.) And according to my webmail settings, the messages older than two weeks are deleted automatically.

Are you saying you're missing old messages? Or do those old messages exist but are not found by search? What search are you talking about anyway? There are multiple ways to search in Thunderbird.
