I want to clone the account settings from an old computer to apply them to a fresh install on a new computer. I want to leave the email behind. How?

I have a Thunderbird email client on an old computer (Lubuntu 16.10) and I want to clone the account set up to apply it to a new installation elsewhere (Lubuntu 17.04). The profile is massive and I want to leave the old email on the old computer as an archive.

How do I clone just the account setup? Thanks, John Coyne

You can try to pick and choose Files and folders in the profile - Thunderbird to copy over, or you can just simply copy over the Profile without the e-mail.

Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data. See the section for Moving a profile.

The answer was helpful. (I did find another solution by creating new settings from scratch.)

On my wish list would be a catalogue of the files in the .profile to show which ones are needed for what purpose. Or even better a migration tool. Perhaps one day I'll join in and help create such things.
