I set up a new Thunderbird account yesterday for my Win. 7 desktop , set up 1 email account which was working fine until 20 minutes ago but when I double clicked the icon to check latest messages, the account had disappeared and needed to be set up again where it promptly downloaded 5076 messages - what happened? Any help / advice appreciated Johna888

The latest update, 52.1.1, seems to have some problem recognizing the existing profile file. I had the same problem and the profile is still on my computer in the proper location, but for some reason Thunderbird is not recognizing the location. Running the Troubleshooting help shows the profile file and all the mail and other files, but the program is just not recognizing it. I don't have a solution, though I'm still trying to find one. There doesn't seem to be anyway to contract Thunderbird directly, but I did post on their Facebook page.

Thanks for the information, hopefully that suggests it was not something I did :-). Issue now is just how reliable Thunderbird is. I have to keep a lot of my emails so I really can't afford the account to keep disappearing.

Thank you Airmail. Looks very comprehensive so will work my way through. That said, trying to recover the account using the set-up wizard I seem to have created another problem by and entering the same details but as a POP3 account rather than an IMAP so now have two accounts for the same email address :-(. Do you use the program CCleaner? What antivirus are you using? What version of Thunderbird do you have?

Thak's for reading my question. Yes I do use CCleaner which has just updated. Malwarebytes, Spybot and Win. Defender Version 52.1.1 although I see it's the 32 bit version not the 64 bit - is that OK? Regards, Johna888

as I said all four of my email accounts disappeared. No inbox or anything were speaking accounts. The calendar function still shows but the tab called home says I have no accounts looking in the mail folder within the profile with the strange name all the accounts are sitting there one for a local cable company one for Gmail and 2 for my normal ISP. I looked at the profile.I and I and it's pointing at the correct name and since then for another reason I created another profile for my wife to get away from a very old email program. The profile that I and I list her as a separate entry number one and it is working correctly except for the fact of the parameter -no-remote on her icon to start Thunderbird which has a problem running because it says Firefox is already running. Any thoughts? Thanks Carver Smith
