I have a new computer and I will be installing thunderbird email. I wish to save all emails and address book on a thumbdrive or such and reload them ( import ) to the new system. How do go about this. there is no export or back up feature in the menus.

Thunderbird does contain an Import option/dialog in the Tools menu. Generally you need to export data - either email or address books - from one program first and Import that into Thunderbird using the Import option. However if you want to move content from one Thunderbird install to another, you can copy the profile contents instead.
