Thunderbird deletes my inbox emails when I check for new emails. It doesn't do it all the time, however. I have configured my account to leave my old emails in my inbox but it still deletes them. Anyone know why and how I can stop this from occurring? I am losing a lot of important emails as a result. Very frustrating. I have several computers with Thunderbird installed but do onto have this problem on them.

I forgot to mention that the deleted emails do not appear in my trash.

Hi there Sherman_Oaks!

Do you access this email account from more than one device/computer? eg. you might use Thunderbird on your computer, but have also added your email to your mobile/cell phone or tablet.

If you do access it on another device, check the make sure that you're using IMAP rather than POP. You'll usually be able to see this in the account settings.

Put simply, IMAP allows you to set up multiple devices to access your email and keep them all in sync. However, if you're using POP email, it will download the emails and remove them from the server by default, meaning that your other devices won't see the emails.

Let me know what you discover. If you need help finding the server settings, just let me know :)

Cheers,

Tim

Tim -

Thanks for the reply. I use my email accounts on many devices and have done so for a long, long time without any problem. my laptop is the only device with this problem. What is frustrating is that it sporadically deletes my inbox emails. The server settings are set correctly. I have unchecked the box indicating that emails will be deleted when checking for new emails. Is there another area that I should check?

Hi John,

Thanks for confirming it's set not to delete items on download, that ticks one item off the list. Searching around, I've found a fairly detailed page detailing common causes of missing emails.

Have you had a read through of this page as yet?

No, I haven't seen that page yet. I only searched the database on Mozilla"s site. Hope this will cure my problem! thanks again.
