My Thunderbird is moving very slow. Emails are sending, but it takes a very long time and it never says the email sent even though they did in fact get received

Every time I try to send an email, a pop-up shows up saying "copying message to sent folder". This pop-up stays on the screen basically forever. Although, Thunderbird isn't telling me my emails are sending, I've confirmed that the emails I've tried to send in Thunderbird have still gone through to the recipient. I'm not sure how to fix this issue and would appreciate any assistance. I have verified my outgoing SMTP settings and that the correct SMTP server is being used. My outgoing email is not being blocked either.

the error is in copying the sent email into the send folder after the email is sent, not anything to do with the actual sending of the email.

What mail provider are you using. This is common with Google and Outlook but they have a different solution to most others. It is also often the anti virus in use. What are you using?
