Today while trying to reply to an email I got the following Alert. An error occurred while sending mail: the mail server sent an incorrect greeting: 4.3.4 allocated resources exceeded. This only happening on Thunderbird. Using IE or Firefox and with the same email address I have no problems.

You should talk to your email provider. The error is from their server.

Webmail infrastructure is independent from POP/IMAP/SMTP servers. Therefore, if webmail works, this isn't an indication that there are no other problems.

Disagree with solution. The problem only occurs with Thunderbird. When using the same email address on IE or Firefox the messages are sent. I prefer to use Thunderbird which I why I would like a solution to the problem.
