We have several applications that depend on Java applets, and currently recommend IE11 or Firefox 52.3 ESR for our users since both of these, with some can unblock Java. We're concerned that these applications will become obsolete or unsupportable should this feature not be brought forward in v59.x ESR.

hi, no firefox 52esr will be the last firefox version to still support npapi plugins. that will continue to receive security updates till end of june 2018. this has already been announced years ago, so you should prepare to migrate away from this technology: https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/
