My bookmarks are gone
I was advised to refresh Firefox today because it’s as slow as molasses. All of my bookmarks are gone. I tried to recover them from a backup but the last file was dated 2013. Wtf?

Hello,
When I upgraded to Windows 10, I lost all my bookmarks in Firefox. I tried to import them both from Google Chrome and from a saved HTML file, but neither method worked. Then I purchased the OSpeedy System Optimizer, which was supposed to correct this problem, but this did not work at first.
Then, a support person at OSpeedy figured it out. First, I had to do a system check. This is what the support person said to do, and the small variable differences that I had to perform on my computer. In order to run a system check, do the following:
Right click the start button at the bottom left side of the computer and select the Command Prompt (Admin). On my computer this is called the Windows PowerShell. If you've got Windows PowerShell in your start-up programs menu, you can drag this icon out to your desktop.
Then, run the Windows PowerShell system checker as an administrator. Right click the Windows PowerShell icon and select "run as administrator." Then, enter sfc /scannow
sfc /scannow Notice that there is a space between sfc and /scannow. sfc means system file check. /scannow is self-explanatory.
The scan will take at least one hour. You might have to reboot after that. I didn't need to reboot.
Oddly, after the scan on my computer was finished, a message came up saying that there were no problems or irregularities. Regardless, after that I experimented with the Firefox Import Bookmarks feature. When I selected to import my saved bookmarks from Google Chrome, a single bookmark appeared on the Bookmarks Toolbar that said, "From Google Chrome." Then, the 20+ bookmarks that I'd saved showed up in the pull-down menu directly beneath this single bookmark, and I was able to drag them individually upward to the Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox.
I was impressed with the detective work that this support person at OSpeedy System Optimizer had done and purchased their software package for one year.
I hope that this might help you.

Hi lab4747
What is your operating system?
Aren't there any compressed .jsonlz4 bookmarks backups in the bookmarkbackups folder?
- Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
You can check if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case the Refresh feature in Firefox has been used and a new profile has been created.
You can check if you have an orphaned profile that isn't registered in profiles.ini and that doesn't show in the Firefox Profile Manager. You can check that by opening the current profile folder via the about:profiles page and go up one level (..) to see if there are unlisted profiles present. If you have found profiles other than the one you currently use then you may want to recover some personal data or restore his profile.
You can recover an orphaned profile via these steps:
- use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles - click "Choose Folder" in the Profile Manager
- browse to the location of a lost profile to register this profile in the Profile Manager and recover this profile
See "Profile was moved or renamed":
Note that you should never use "Choose Folder" to specify a folder that already contains files that do not belong to Firefox (i.e. only use "Choose Folder" to recover an orphaned profile that isn't listed in the Profile Manager)
