Just installed Thunderbird, using IMAP. And some received (several months ago) e-mails are now dated by today and yesterday. What's wrong?

Chosen solution

TB displays the often-incorrect Date header in the Date column. If you check the Received header (Ctrl+U to view), it will probably show the correct (several months ago) time.
