I tried a solution from 2015 to recover old emails from gmail, but could not get it to work; Tbird did not pick up the inbox mail after transfer

During a W10 update (of which i was unaware), i switched off my laptop. Next time Windows could not start and the only option given was a complete re-installation, which destroyed my Tbird data. There is a note in the Q7A forums about this and i tried it, but Tbird says there are no new messages even though there are over 50 which i transferred out of Gmail "all mail" to inbox. Any further ideas for me?

Windows OS should auto create a 'windows.old' folder. Usually this is placed on the Desktop and should contain all Appdata folders; including the Thunderbird profile folders. This is created by Windows to allow you to reinstall Thunderbird and then reinstall old profile.

Do you see a 'windows.old' folder?
