This is more trouble that having to go to your home page to click on the envelope. When I click on my mail icon on my desktop, a request for my password come up and it only recognizes my i-phone. Once I put in the "key" it doesn't help me use my desktop like it did for years. The only way I can access my mail on my desktop is click on Foxfire which goes to the Yahoo home page and then click on the envelope. Why did this change and can I ever use my desktop "inbox" icon again?

How old is your desktop shortcut? Yahoo might have changed the address to your Inbox since that time. Try creating a new one:
After you successfully load your inbox, resize the Firefox window so you can see a blank area of your desktop and "drag" the padlock icon from the left end of the address bar out to the desktop and drop it there. That should drop a shortcut to the page on your desktop, and hopefully that one will work better for you.
Success?
I did that and when I clicked on the icon the same screen came up sending me the key to my cell phone, but not my desktop. The icon says, Yahoo-login.webloc.....does that help?

Sorry, as a Windows person, I don't know why that doesn't work on Mac.
