I cannot type Russian letters: х, ъ, ж, э, б, ю into URL-bar and both of search fields, web-search and page text search. You have this retrobug for SEVERAL YEARS!!! Firefox now 59, Windows 10x64

P.S. Uppercase letters Х, Ъ, Ж, Э, Б, Ю are typed normally, as all other letters.

Which language version of FF did you install?

British, as I install for a dozen years (since Phoenix).

This bug appears several times this year or another, then it sounds be fixed, then reappears again.

Additional report: in ver.59 this bug is related to address bar too.

Are you switching the keyboard layout to Russian or are you using other ways to type these characters?

Can you paste these characters in the location/address bar or does that fails as well?

Hello!

Pasting is ok.

It's the typing process that has flaws.

I can type-in almost all Russian lowercase letters except listed above into:

  • web-search
  • in-page-search
  • address-bar
  • plugin-search
  • find-in-options
  • home-page-url
  • save-files-to-downloads-field
  • content-handling-applications
  • manual-proxy-configuration
  • device name for sync

All these places revoke typing "хъжэбю". It seems that system input fields of Firefox are all coded the same way.

I can type-in completely all Russian uppercase letters, including "ХЪЖЭБЮ".

I noticed this retrobug in Fx 58.some. I rechecked this bug in Fx 52ESR - everything is ok, correct, flawless.

I haven't installed all the versions from 57 all the way down to 52 to limit bug scope. And I haven't checked this bug in 58..59Russian or x32 (could try in spare time).

And I remember this bug in some versions during long history of Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox.

It would be better to create a bug report on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi and provide here a bug number.
