No success with firewall exceptions so how do I allow download link from unknown publisher

So the problem is, the download is blocked after the run/save window with another saying unknown publisher and so refuses to start downloading. The manufacturer says check internet connection. It's fine Now I've allowed the name of the support launcher in firewall via exceptions but it still won't load. Even tried it with firewall turned off. The download Icon TzsetupSfx, is shown in the downloads folder along with its file version 1.2.0.715 and name of publisher. So what can I do to get the download accepted by Firefox. I'm running 52.7 in win XP 3 pro. The manufacturers' URL is a www.

Chosen solution

Well here's the latest. IE stopped working when MS shut it down. from that time it would not load fully and I've always got a "connection failed. Contact your server' warning. Never worried about it, just used Firefox. So continuing my download problems, yesterday I changed my search engine to DuckDuckGo from Google, but that did nothing. Discovered quite a few pages on the net from people having the same problems with answers I've already tried. Don't know if any of these folks got fixed.


But my problem is fixed. Today I changed my Search engine to Bing from Google. instant download completion. And said downloaded program fully working. My IE browser now works after years in the seller [although haven't tried it fully yet] as does Firefox. All systems ok and seemingly working better than when using Google search. Little beauty.

For those interested, computer passed all Dell tests. Apparently the problem is my networking connection has limited connectivity. [Work to do]. Thanks again to everyone.

It sounds like your protection programs are being overprotective. Try to disable them during the download.

Firefox doesn't show "Run" in its download dialog. When do you see "Run"? The usual options are:

  • Documents: Open / Save / Cancel
  • Executable files: Save / Cancel

What is the link you're trying to download from?

I must have a foreign computer. A lot of the download stuff I encounter using Firefox says to click on save and then on the run buttons. Save places an icon in the download file, Run is supposed to open/install whatever it is from an unknown publisher. Anyway doesn't work in this case, but I keep trying to find an answer. Not important any more.

On the Dell page, I see:

"Click on the downloaded file SupportAssistLauncher.exe located in the bottom or top of your browser window or in your Downloads (Ctrl+J)."

They are trying to cover all the different possible browser behaviors in just one sentence, so no wonder it is hard to follow! But that's probably better than sites that only give instructions for Chrome...

FredMcD Yes still a problem. I have 10 + icons in my download file due to trying different settings to allow unknown publisher material. Clicking on any one produces the Dell "problem with download" window suggesting I check my internet connection [generic message?]. Incidentally I've done a complete uninstall/install of Firefox via Google because it was behaving so badly and just wouldn't stabilize after a refresh. At least it's all ok now allbeit slow and prone to hanging if I browse on the one site for too long. Computer is quiet now also.

So I guess this is one problem left in the unsolved basket. Any other download files I want present no difficulties just this one. Firefox is behaving beautifully at the moment since a uninstall/reinstall, only the occasional dreaded 'Firefox is not responding' window.

Problem still exists. For whatever reason It's only the Dell site so I'll give them a miss. Telstra will switch on the NBN to our area later in the year? and then the server price of 'must buy it or get disconnected' will rise beyond my budget. But that doesn't help with my immediate download problem. So we'll just have to work around these little annoying Firefox demons, which I reckon is probably due in part to my aging desktop.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Win IE deceased, I would remove what's left but that removes Firefox as well. Done that eons ago. Luck with the phone call, Dell don't seem interested if it;s not warranty.

Go to another computer (public library for example) and download what you want to a thumb drive.
