Todays Update Has Made My Hidden City Game On Facebook Painfully Slow

Today 5/20/2018, I opened Firefox and it was automatically updated. After the update I used my bookmark for Hidden City on Facebook (it's not the Gameroom app) and while the app was loading twice I got the yellow banner message that a webpage is slowing down my browser. I have gotten that message before and I always just wait instead of clicking Wait or Stop and the message goes away the app continues loading. After the loading screen the game was unbearably slow. My cursor moved around the screen fine but everything in the game moved slow. The CPU usage was 60-64 and the Memory usage was 63-71 and 4 firefox processes were running. When I first used the FireFox Quantum browser to play Hidden City was slow and I followed help page to fix it, but this recent update seems to have undone what I tweaked. The current version of the browser I see in the about FireFox is 60.0.1 (64 bit). Can someone help me tweak the browser so I can play game Hidden City? And I would like to also play my Secret Society game (it's the same type of game as Hidden City) in this browser but I haven't because I was concerned both games would be to much data for the browser to hold and would cause it to slow down. Is there a way I can store the data for both games so it doesn't effect the browsers performance and protect the data from being accidentally deleted when I clean out the browsers history? Also, Firefox is not my default browser, I only use it to play Hidden City because Internet Explorer can't be used to play it. Also I already have Adobe Flash on my computer but I can't use it in Firefox, when I tried to check out Secret Society there was a message saying I need to download flash player. How do I enable Flash Player so I can play Secret Society? I tried following the article I found in help but I don't see the flash player in my add ons, and the other add-ons I have is UBlock and it's enabled, and No Script which I just added today to see if it would help but I disabled it because it blocked java script and Hidden City won't work without it. If you need more information just let me know and I will try my best to supply it. Thank you for your time.

HI, we do not close your questions. You have control over that by marking it as solved. If not solved it stays open. Also it is only other computer helping forums that upset other sites. Or other anti-malware sites do not like double posting. So is cool as this is the starting place.

As to your PM this date. Not wise to install to versions unless install to a separate h/drive. Please back up your profile for regular release and bookmarks, make sure your getting the right one.

Uninstall both regular release and the esr as they are intertwined now.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi, I would suggest you update your Video Card Drivers for your adapterDescription: AMD Radeon HD 8200 / R3 Series driverDate: 12-23-2016 As drivers for your card are still being released monthly and should be kept up to date always.

Flash can be downloaded from here :

Please see this on how to activate it :

As you found out NoScript is a blocker as is Ublock. Might want to try running the game with out it.

History : Would need to know this in reverse :

For slowness and the warning you are getting usualy means your Profile is rather full or fragmented. A Refresh Would wipe your history and logins. So how about trying this and see if speeds things up : Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Once installed please check these 2 out : go to Privacy & Security and down to Permissions. Please ensure that the box for Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser is checked. A Reboot is needed if changed.

Please go to Options --> General --> Performance and uncheck the box for Use Recommended Settings and try changing the Process count to 2 and can also go up but note more cpu and ram will be used but can be fine on the right systems. You will need to reboot after making any changes.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Sorry I didn't see your reply until just now, I tried clicking 1reply and nothing happened so I assumed there was nothing here until I actually clicked the question. I will get started right away on your suggestions, thank you for your time, and sorry again for the loose marbles, lol.

There will be no more updates for the AMD Radeon HD 8200/R3 series driver and it's been substituted with AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition and that's up to date, I opened settings for it and ran a update check and it's version 16.12.2. I followed your flash player link and installed it and I read and understand how to activate it just for the game I want to play. As far as running the game without UBlock Origin running I'd rather not since it's a added security feature that blocks things that I don't appreciate like doubleclick, also the game ran fine with it running before the most recent Firefox update and I'd like to go back to that. I don't have NoScript running because I don't know how to tweak it yet, so it's use is on hold. I don't know what you mean by knowing the History in reverse, but the reason I have not touched anything having to do with deleting the history is. When I first started playing the game I got suspicious of some cookies and that lead to me deleting collection items in the game that friends just sent me that day. So I'll try a clean install of Firefox and see if that helps. Is there a way I can store my game files outside of the browser to allow me in the future to delete the history without compromising my game progress? That's the reason I haven't been playing Secret Society in the browser, I figured it would be to much data and slow the browser since they are both the same type of game that use a lot of memory and so on. Thank you again for your time, I truly appreciate it no matter the results and if you need more info please let me know and I'll get it to you.

I downloaded and saved the Firefox Setup 60.0.1exe to my desktop but I don't see the Installation Folder you are talking about. I followed the path C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and the folders I see in that folder are: browser, defaults, dictionaries, fonts, gmp-clearkey, and uninstall, but there is a log file called install.log. The path C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service, in that folder there are 2 folders logs, and update but there is an Uninstallexe in the folder. What should I do?

Hi, please go to Programs & Features to uninstall Firefox from there. Then follow the instructions.

If after putting Crimson Edition in )Crimson replaces the older control panel) (I run that on a HD 7970/R2) and activating Flash when need to try this before uninstalling. Ignore all but make self aware of these if things are running just fine after the video card drivers update..

Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I did what you said except for the uninstall/reinstall because after I changed the process limit to 2 and restarted Firefox, I loaded the game and there was no change so I opened Task Manager and the 4 background processes are still there. There is no change in CPU and Memory usage. Am I wrong in thinking that I should only be seeing 2 Firefox background processes in Task Manager after changing the multiprocessor to 2 instead of the default 4 it was at? I also noticed something suspious but I'm unsure of what it is. When I was playing Hidden City in March I noticed that some of the letters in the game were messed up like scribble, and I started seeing a command prompt screen titled Taskeng.exe that was popping up at random for about 2 seconds and then it would disappear. I didn't see it pop-up multiple times a day and not every day. A few times it popped up on the loading screen for Hidden City or at another random time during game play. I assumed it was my computer trying to fix the font glitch in the game, and when I got the April event update the font was fixed so I assumed taskeng did it's job especially since I wasn't seeing it pop-up. But as of recent, like the past 2 weeks it's behavior has changed to popping up outside of the game like today when I woke up my computer as soon as the screen came on I saw it pop-up for a split second on my desktop screen. I didn't have any apps open or in the background and if I had turned my head for a second I would have missed it because it's popping up and disappearing faster now. I went the bleeping computer website and found out that it can be a malicious process posing as a legitimate Windows task and you can tell the difference by using autorun to see if the file is stored outside of where it should be. Since I already have autorun I was thinking I should submit a copy of the log at bleeping computer to found out if I have malware running on my computer and maybe that's what made my game so slow. Plus when I first tried to play it on facebook I clicked the Play button on the HC facebook page and the website clkuk trade doubler open in a pop-up window but it was blocked by my mvp host file. Again, at the time I thought nothing of it because it's the same site connected G5 game ads that pop-up randomly in their games, but now I'm not so sure. Anyway, what would you like me to do, continue with the uninstall/reinstall of Firefox in case a corrupt profile is the cause or stop here and get help from bleeping computer to find out if malware is the cause?

I just want to let you know that I only searched the bleeping computer website for information about taskeng, I didn't post for help yet and I will only do so if you reply that I should go to bleeping computer to see if my PC is infected and when I'm done there, come back and let you know the results.

I have a question about 2 new plugins that have appeared after the last Firefox update. Open H264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.7.1, and the other is Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc. 1.4.8.1008. The plugins section of my browser was empty until the last update and now the 2 plugins are there along with the shockwave flash player I recently installed. Both plugins are set to default for automatic updates and the last update on both is 12/8/17. Should I tick yes on both for automatic updates? I also forgot to tell you that I did do a Windows Defender full scan, Malwarebytes full scan, Super Antispyware full scan and Adware Cleaner scan and nothing was found, I also did a scan with Rkill and nothing was found. I also read the firefox article "Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware" and the section "How do I know that my Firefox problem is a result of malware?", I don't really have the problems listed. I'm not experiencing pop-up ads or any other kind of pop-up, just the one I told you about Taskeng.exe., I haven't experienced any redirects or homepage hijacking, Firefox loads and connects fine, I only had 1 crash and that was a while back, and I don't have tabs or windows opening nor any toolbars. The only odd thing I can think of is when the browser was set at 4 multiprocessors, when I opened firefox and it loaded to the blank homepage the blue loading wheel on the cursor would continuously spin until I moved the mouse, but now that multiprocessor is set at 2 now when I open firefox the blue loading wheel stops on it's own after a few seconds. So I guess I'm just being paranoid about taskeng.exe being malicious and probably only need a to do a corrupt file scan to stop it from popping up. Please let me know what I should do with the 2 new plugins and if they are probably the cause since they were last updated 12/8/17 and automatic update is on default which I don't know what that means? Sorry for any headache I may have given you and please let me know if you still want me to uninstall/reinstall firefox through Programs & Features? Sorry

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I can't try Hidden City in Safe Mode. When I clicked my bookmark to go to the game I got a message stating, "This App requires a WebGL-enabled browser to run." There were 3 browsers to download which is Chrome, Mozilla, and Edge. Then below that was " Try Hidden City on Facebook Gameroom, the new way to play Facebook Games." What should I do?

I have a question about loading. When I open my Firefox browser it opens to a blank page and my cursor shows a blue spinning wheel. It stays like that if I don't touch my mouse but as soon as I touch my mouse the blue loading wheel turns back into the arrow. I'm confused about what that means. When it keeps spinning is the browser still loading and when I touch the mouse does that stop the browser from loading completely? I've been assuming that when the blue loading wheel doesn't stop on it's own and when I touch the mouse and it stops than the browser is done loading. Or am I suppose to wait until the blue loading wheel stops on it's own and then use the browser?

Also, when I'm done playing the game should I click the X on the page tab or should I always click the menu 3bar and click Exit? The reason why I'm asking is because I always click the X on the page tab and when the browser disappears I can still hear music from the game for a few seconds and sometimes after the music stops it comes back on for a second or two. I don't know if that's important but I thought I should let you know in case I'm the one who has caused the problem due to not exiting the game probably but I don't see anything in the game to click when I'm done so I've been clicking the tab X.

I manually disabled plugins and extensions and still no change.

I did everything you asked and still nothing has changed the constipation of my Hidden City game which was working fine until the 5/20/18 Mozilla update. I'm only using this browser so I can play Hidden City on Facebook and play the games event updates since they stopped making event updates for the Windows 8.1 version back in 12/2017. So it really sucks that I can't get any help or my question answered about turning updates for the 2 new plugins the last update forced on me especially since my browser chooses are limited due to a browser requirement. So you can close this post because I don't appreciate being treated like a nuance as you pass the buck.

Hi, Firefox Support is done Volunteers, users like you. There is no paid staff to lay blame on. We are all over the world. Today happens to be a Long Weekend in the US and since I am in Canada thought would pull some extra to allow people time off. Yes I noticed your post and did not reply to it as never opened. The reason behind that is there is a count showing responses and it showed more responses each time I noticed it. So figured someone was helping you. Instead it was you adding to your post. Which pumped up the replies. Which caused me not to look at it.

So there was no slight of you and no pass the buck.

If you do not want to use Firefox feel free....

fyi : Taskeng.exe is Windows Task Manager and was up due to a scheduled task that was running or being missed.

You make long paragraphs with out breaks or points or numbered reading this is difficult when you make run on.

So please put a break between unrelated items if you choose to continue.

If this is a low ram system maybe should go to Extended Release Version.

Again, please close this topic. I have asked for malware removal assistance at bleepingcomputer com and I do not want them to think I'm trying to sabotage their efforts in assisting me by also receiving assistance some where else at the same time. Which is not the case, and my apologies for run-ons.

Thank you very much for all of the information. Unfortunately, I was a ding ding waiting for an inbox notice of your reply, and it just dawned on me today to check my post for it. I'll start working on what you advised and report my results tomorrow. I have question, I remember you saying that you also have the AMD Crimson Edition. In the first screen shot below (GD1), I circled what I installed which is the Radeon Software Crimson Relive Edition 16.12.2. Was I suppose to also install the 2 optional downloads in the second screen shot (GD2), AMD Chipset Drivers and/or AMD RAIDXpert Utility? I also can't find a straight answer to whether or not I should allow Windows Update to auto install driver updates? I read I shouldn't because Windows Update is known for rolling back drivers and I have also read that Windows 8/8.1/10 users should allow automatic update for drivers because they're important. I have Windows 8.1 and I turned off driver auto update a long time ago, was I wrong?

Thank you so much for all of your help. I reinstalled Firefox without Esr. Also, I think i should post for help with my computer at HP support. My Windows Store App is loading app images slowly. I also tried the game in Chrome, it has the correct speed but something was making it freeze every 5 seconds for 5 seconds. I watched Task Manager during that and saw that a Chrome process was spiking my CPU up to 99%. It took 5 seconds for it to go from 0% usage to 44.% usage, then 5 seconds for it to drop down to 0% again. I tried playing the game in Facebook Gameroom. It also had the correct speed but it kept my CPU in the high 90s. So after all of that I think there is something wrong with my computer, not the Firefox browser. Thx again.
