I am trying to set up mail redirect by following this procedure. In Thunderbird menu, select Add-ons, this opens a new window which is called 'mailRedirect settings'. In one of the boxes I wrote the email address I wanted the mails to be redirected to and pressed OK. I sent an email to the main email address which subsequently arrive at this email address. It did not arrive at the redirected email address. Your suggestions appreciated. Best wishes, Paul

What I wanted to happen was - any email I received would automatically be sent to the nominated email address without me having to do anything.

That is not what the add-on does.

What you are suggest is almost the same as just forwarding a received email.

Actually, it's not. When forwarding a message, you appear as the sender. When re-directing a message, the original sender is kept. That's what this add-on does.

Is there anyway of redirecting an email automatically to other people/person without me having to do this manually?

You should do that on the server. Login to your account via webmail and see what options are offered by your email provider.

In the message pane right-click the message you want to re-direct. Note, there are screenshots on the add-on site at https://addons.thunderbird.net
