Hi there,

The Mail-Server of one of my accounts is down for a few days. That is planned. It will be back online in the future. Thunderbird constantly tells me that the server timed out via a popup (every minute or so for about 10 seconds). That is very annoying. Can i stop this or better: reduce the frequency of the popups to once an hour maybe?

I know that I could put Thunderbird in offline mode. But that would prevent me from receiving E-Mails via the other accounts managed in my Thunderbird.

Setting just the account concerned to offline would work for me but i couldn't figure out a way to do it.

Thanks

Randy

how frequently have you set Thunderbird to check mail on the account. It should default to 15 minutes so that should be the frequency of mail checking. Setting it to 90000 minutes should give you a break between notices.

Thanks for your reply Matt

it is set to 10 minutes. The popup frequency is pretty close to 1 minute though.

is this an imap account? It might be that attempts to synchronize already started actions are continuing hence a regular attempt. moves or deletions would be my guess.

it is an imap account, yes. So you reckon it was just bad luck that the server went down interrupting a procedure? Server is back online now so i won't be able to test any fixes you might suggest although it would be nice to have the issue fixed for future server outages and/or others who might experience the same issue.

There has been a bug to allow the disabling of Thunderbird accounts open for years. There has been some activity lately and it might come to some resolution in the next 12 months. This does not only affect your situation, but those closing the mail account change ISP or whatever) but wanting to keep the mails. So basically create a flag to say this account is closed freeze it, It will happen I am sure, when it not predictable.
