There is no paper clip on a forwarded message that contains an attachment. How do I access the attachment?

Chosen solution

If you mean just like your text appears in this message above, then there is no attachment. There was an attachment at some point, but it has been removed, quite possible by the person who sent the forwarded message.

However if the message was originally from a Microsoft mail client then clicking forward in Thunderbird will remove the attachment as they do not correctly encode the attachments in their emails.

it does not sound like there is an attachment to me. is there any reason to think the sender did not include it, despite talking about it.

Yes, attachment appears in brackets <> at the bottom of the forwarded email but with no way to open it. Example: <TDM014930754.pdf>
