I use to create email with programs other than thunderbird. The procedure was: create the attached file in the third-part program, generate email message in Thunderbird automatically without sending, modificate if need to, send message. When version 60.5.2 arrived, generated emails are sended automatically without possibility of modification or even to add CC or CCN. I think it could be some options to modify, but I can't find them.
