message is displaying two tags. one of them is wrong

I tagged a message with the wrong tag. The tag should be on a different message. When I delete the tag from the list it deletes the # from both messages. When I add the number to the correct message it adds the tag back in other message that I don't want it to be on. How can I delete the tag on one message but leave it on another message?

Select the message in the list Go to the message menu and select tags. You will see a tick beside each tag applied to that email. click the ticked item to remove the tag from that email.
