firefox is a browser not a email program. Sounds like you got network issues if it is asking for system administrator. So whom computer is that your using?

Firefox can however view email by way of webmail aka web based email.

Are you using Outlook for email?

If it's AOL eMail, they're having problems. See This Post.

The email is Outlook and the problem has been recognized by others on the web as occurring immediately after a reinstallation of Firefox. The fixes sounded too involved and I was looking for something more straightforward. Of course I could always just mark Chrome as my default browser.

@tedwards, FYI for best email especially with microsoft email programs it's best to use IE or Edge for WebOutlook email. Otherwise having MS Office with Outlook is the preferred method.

This issue can be a problem with the default browser settings where some registry keys are incorrect or corrupted. You can try to redo the default browser setting and temporarily set another browser as the default browser. If that doesn't help then try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. When you are on Windows 10 then make sure to set another browser as the default browser before uninstalling Firefox.
