when I go to https://www.couchtuner.click/ i get hounded by a pop up that says couch tuner wants to show notifications I click deny and I still get them over and over again. I have gone into options then to privacy and security then down to notices, went into settings and where it says these websites have recently sent you notice requests. it is blank it does not list couchtuner.click as ever having sent me a notice. i checked pause notifications until firefox restarts and block new requests asking to allow notifications and that did not help at all, I then went to the addy bar and the round circle that allows you to get to the information center and went to privacy then to permissions and down to send notices I removed the default check mark and clicked block and I still get the pop up asking for permission to send notices. why does this option seem to not work? it should be blocking all notices older versions as recent as a couple months back worked just fine. this version wont stop the notices and when you click on the information ring in the addy bar it does not show that I have notices blocked it shows pop ups are blocked and adobe flash is enabled but no matter how i set it it never says I have blocked notices, all I can think of is that there must be a bug in the permissions system. if you people can think of anything I might be missing i would appreciate your input.

In this case, it was likely just a fake popup that was on that one website you referred to in your question. That would mean it's not actually coming from Firefox, it's just a website that wants you to believe that it's a legit notification popup so that you click the page.

Simply avoid the website and you should be good to go.

I'm not sure if this is the case in your situation since I'm not really keen on navigating to the popup website, but a lot of the popup websites have faked the notifications popup. Basically, they are putting the notification popup on their website and positioning it in such a way that it appears to be the legitimate popup from Firefox.

There are a few reasons that they want to trick people. Maybe clicking the deny or accept button will open more popups and maybe clicking it will trigger the installation of some malicious code. In most cases, it's to trick the user into interacting with the website since many malicious acts require the user to do something that will trigger it to start.

Again, not sure if it's the case in this situation, but based on your question, it's a possibility.

In most cases, the popup is styled to look like the Google Chrome notification confirmation popup, not the Firefox one. I've attached a screenshot of what the Firefox one looks like. If it looks any different on yours, it's likely a fake popup.

Another easy way to tell a fake from the legitimate one is that the legitimate popup will slightly overlap the Firefox address bar. This is something that websites can't imitate because they are restricted to the confines of the Firefox content window.

Hope this helps.

that is a very good possibility because it does pop up another page, it is the same page the pop up appears on though. it still leaves the question as to why firefox will not allow me to shut off notifications on that site. i should be able to go into the information center and then turn off permission for notices. when i attempt to do that it does not keep my new settings for notices. it seems to hold the adobe flash setting and pop up setting , they appear in the drop down under permissions but I have tried at least 20 times to block notices and it never appears in the information center ring drop down.

If you go to this test page and click Authorize, does the notification confirmation popup appear?

ok went to that page and into notification permissions and it did not show that sites URL under sites who have sent notice requests , this is the display that the web site shows. it shows there is an error, i am not sure if it is in my set up or firefox so I guess i am still lost because it looks like its still not blocking notices, i did not see a notice pop up on the page though everything that showed was in the detail box below where you click to send a notifacation, i tried the imediate button and then the wait 5 seconds button both said error and neither one popped up a notice request on the page

This is the output console. Text will appear here when stuff happens.

That web page is about Web Notifications.

This is a test page for Push notification:

Such a website registers a service worker that you see listed on the about:serviceworkers page. Push notifications are send in the background.

yjay site worked correctly and showed up in the notifications permission box. so looks like its working correctly, it would be nice if firefox allowed you to just add sites by copy and paste to either accept or deny but for free I guess you cant ask for everything to be perfect lol
