Since I posted this query, I kept trying things and went to the mouse properties and changed the speed of the double click. This seems to have fixed the problem. I am going to try and close down the question.

I accidentally moved to firefox 67 (64 bit) from (x86). Now, when I left click, the mouse frequently double clicks. Not all the time, but most of the time. For example, if I click on a drop down, it drops and then immediately closes. If I click on the zoom, it will skip one level and go up or down two levels.

I only have one ad-on, AdBlocker, and I disabled it to see what would happen , but it had no effect on the double click.

Mouse clicks are functions of the mouse hardware failure or dirty mouse buttons. You should switch mouse to find out if problem is mouse or defective mouse.

Westend,

You might be right; I suspect that you are. I've ordered a new mouse and will see if there is a difference. It seems the time for me to get a new one anyway.

I will report in one way or the other. Hopefully, it will solve the problem.

Thanks for responding.

You don't have to buy a new one but borrow a mouse and test if that is the case. But if this fixes then that is good. Mouse are the most heavily used nowdays.
