I am using Thunderbird v. 68.3.1 on a late-2013 27" iMac running 10.10.5 (Yosemite) OS. I have been using Thunderbird for many years. All of a sudden, when I write or reply to any email, all I see is my email address on the "From" line, no email address on the "To" line and the email to me is missing. I can't type in anything on the "To" line, the "Subject" line, or anything in the email body. Basically, I cannot compose or send emails. If I click on "send", nothing happens. I've restarted the Mac and no change.

Attached is a screen shot of the reply window (basically the same as when I click on "Write" to compose an email). I put a white box over my email info for the purposes of this post. It doesn't do this in Thunderbird.

What the hell? Any advice is appreciated. I couldn't find any threads that helped. Thank you!

Chosen solution

Start by disabling your add-ons and non-default themes, and enabling them one-at-a-time to see if you can find one that's the source of the problem. If add-ons aren't the cause, launch in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars and controls' and click 'Make changes and restart'. One of those procedures will probably fix it.

Start TB in safe mode (hold Option when you launch TB). Does this make any difference?

Thank you sfhowes for your response! In safe mode, I'm able to send emails and see the email I'm responding to. However, I still have the problem in regular mode. Can you offer any advice for troubleshooting in safe mode to solve my problem in regular mode? The safe mode is a great work around in an emergency, but not the best long-term solution. Thanks again!

I was doing the same thing when you sent your message. The add-ons didn't make a difference. The solution was to launch in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars and controls' and click 'Make changes and restart'. Everything seems to be working again. Thank you again for your time and assistance!
