I can right-click within the attachment box field, with the response "Enter a web page, or document location." Thunderbird doesn't allow you to browse and/or navigate to document location, to attach file. The field always defaults to http://. I'm hoping the ability to attach files from my HD and/or desktop is possible with Thunderbird. Thanks for the help!

You can, but you have to enter a file URL like: file:///path/to/file.pdf

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1344266

See the attached picture, where I attached a file from the profile folder. A Browse... button would be helpful, but you can copy the path from Finder or Windows Explorer.
