When Thunderbird opens, I get 3 extra tabs: Options + 2 "Inbox" tabs. Closing tabs, then Tbird, then re-booting Thunderbird does nothing

On startup of Thunderbird the past few days I am getting 3 tabs in addition to the Inbox tab: Options tab, and 2 more empty tabs. If I delete the tabs and bring Thunderbird down, then start it again, I get the same display (with the same 3 extra tabs). Can't find anything in "Settings" to affect this.

Ancillary issue: I took a screenshot to show my Thunderbird window (for illustration here), and the screenshot goes to my screenshot file, but for unknown reasons it does not appear when i navigate to my screenshot file using the "Add images: Browse" button on this "Ask your question to our community of Users" screen. so I can't include my illustrative screenshot; I even moved the jpeg image directly onto my desktop and tried again. When things go south they just keep getting worse. Argh!

The session.json file is written each time TB is closed, so it should be left as is unless the problem reappears. It sometimes becomes corrupted if TB crashes or it is reset by some utilities like CCleaner.

Help/Troubleshooting, click Open Folder, close TB. Delete or rename session.json. TB should then open with the same tabs that were open at last closing.

Yes, that worked, thanks for the quick reply!!!!

But I was initially confused because your instructions said to close TB before deleting/renaming session.json.

Should that be a permanent change or should session.json be named back again after the reboot?

Any idea of how I got into this situation in the first place? (I don't normally muck around in the troubleshooting screens)
