keeping POP account active while starting to use IMAP

I am switching my email provider, going from a POP server to an IMAP server with a different provider. Since a lot of my friends use the old POP email address I need to keep that active for a while, but also want to get my IMAP email up and running. So really I need both active until my friends get the word about my new email address. What's the best way to do this? thanks

Just add the account with the new provider, starting from File/New/Existing Mail Account. The old POP account and the new IMAP one can operate independently of each other, but you may want to have the IMAP account collect mail from the POP account, by selecting that option in the IMAP account's webmail settings.
