After Firefox update my windows 7 PC to v76, I am unable to resize the address and search bars. The address bar is too long and the search bar is too short. Can this functionality be restored?

I think you must submit feedback via three dot menu (hamburger menu) > Help > Submit Feedback.

I can still resize the Search textbox on 76.0.1 X64 windows 10 1909 18363.778

Maybe you tried to resize it when on customize mode, you should resize it on normal tab page, or blank tab page.

Thanks, Benjamin. But issue not resolved.

Do you get the resize icon if you position the mouse pointer between the two bars in normal mode ?

Make sure that there are any items (including flexible space) between the two bars as this only work when the bars are directly adjacent.

There is no resize icon between the two bars. They are adjacent to one another and there is nothing but a small space between them. When I hover the mouse in that space, nothing happens. It seems the functionality was eliminated when Firefox updated me to version 76.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Appreciate your reply. However, I am somewhat technically-challenged and find the steps too confusing. I feel if I try to do this, it might cause more problems. Wish this could be resolved with the next update.

As a point of reference, it still works the same on Windows 10. Maybe it's something specific to Windows 7.

It's possible...Very frustrating!

Somebody on Windows 10 filed a bug report.

  • Bug 1636481 - I have updated to Firefox 76 and lost the customised size of the search bar/box (now too small)? I went back to the default, dragged and resized the bar but it returned back to the smaller size?

Try to rename/remove xulstore.json in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
