Changed AT&T password and Thunderbird would not work. Got it to work with using a secure mail key but no nothing will save to the sent folder. Saw a bunch of suggestions but none of the work.

Since you haven't given details about the suggestions you saw and tried, we have no idea what they are and how you went about trying them. The more details you give the better, starting with the type of account (IMAP or POP), the current Tbird settings for storage of sent messages and a description of what happens when Tbird fails to save/store them.

I notice I have 2 accounts ???? Also noticed when I send an email it will ask me twice if I want to save it. It will save it to a file called drafts-mrredoc@sbcglobal.net. It will create 2 of the folders every day I send emails. When I move them into the sent file next time it receives emails the sent folder is empty. Also the junk folder always remains empty. Has never happen before. Hope this helps.

Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder ([email]@sbcglobal.net) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to REDOC FOLDERS/[email]@sbcglobal.net-[email]@sbcglobal.net.

'Local Folders' is a special mail account created by default. It contains the 'Outbox' folder which is used by all accounts when using 'Send Later' option. This account can be used to store emails outside of any Pop or Imap mail account. I'm surprised you are not aware of this.

You seem to have a Pop mail account, but it is not known if this is set up as a deferred account more commonly called 'Global Inbox'. If you have a pop account set up as a Global Inbox, then emails are usually stored within the 'Local Folders' mail account and you do not see a normal pop mail account as a separate account with it's own set of folders. However, if set up incorrectly, then you could see both a separate pop account and Local Folders and emails could get confused where theya re suposed to be.

Could you offer some information on what you currently have set up.

  • Menu app icon > Options > Account Settings
  • select 'Server Settings' for the pop account name.
  • Click on 'Advanced' button

What is selected ? 'Inbox for this account' OR 'Inbox for different account' ?

In box is selected for this account. Please excuse me for my ignorance. It stopped working complete like I stated. "Got it to work with using a secure mail key" and as in my opening all this did not start until email would not work at all and I changed it to the secure email key. It then downloaded messages back from a year ago off the server. But the sent and junk folders remained empty.

You could create a new folder for sent messages under your account, call it SentMail, then configure Thunderbird to save sent messages there. You could alternatively choose the Local Folders account as the target for storing sent messages, then send test messages and see if they get saved as expected.
