Firefox Add-On Identification When Hovering

more options

I have Firefox 79 on Windows 8.1 but even before the latest FF update I have been having trouble with the mouse pointer identifying the Firefox Add-Ons and Extensions when pointing to them or placing it over them. It used to work perfectly but now it doesn't. It used to show each of their names. Not now and it makes things much harder. All it does is darken the Add-On into a square but that's all. On other web browsers it does show their name when hovering over an Add-On with the mouse pointer. Does anyone know what has caused this and how I can bring back that function so that I can see what each Add-On's name is when I hover over it? Thank you!

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Delete all extensions* files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files":

There is no real one "answer". Fred McD offered a good method for proceeding to fix your problem.

Just one extension / add-on could cause a problem such as that!
Problem is figuring out which one is causing that to happen.

Disable your extensions / add-ons one at a time until the one which is causing that to happen when it is disabled, and that problem is gone. Then stop using that extension and also try to contact its developer to report the issue or just find a similar add-on to replace it. As long as it isn't a Mozilla created add-on, its up to each developer to fix their add-on.

Sorry, no pain - no gain.
