how does one stop firefox from updating and sending update messages. The last time I updated it wiped out all of my settings including all of my bookmarks. This was done without notification in the update process. It may have been on this the main web site but not where it was easily findable. I won't upgrade until someone from tyhe development says that it will absoluely definitely not toss out my bookmarks and preferences. So if you are not an official Mozilla developer please do not reply to this.

My guess is that you somehow ending up using a different profile (although that shouldn't happen with a normal Firefox update).

When you go to about:profiles, how many profiles do you see?
