preferences don't save

I have tried everything from the help articles but my preferences won't save no matter what I do. It has always worked for me and with this new laptop it never does. Just really tired of dealing with this issue, ready to junk firefox and try a different browser.

Have you tried this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Been there done that article. This has happened since I installed Firefox on a clean brand new MacBook Pro. Nothing makes it save my preferences for saving my tabs upon reopening. Works perfectly fine on my iMac at home. So I don't really understand what is different.
